The county courts and circuit courts have records on civil and criminal cases. These records are sometimes forwarded to the state, often in summary form. This means they may not contain all the information that was in the original file.

US Government records are kept in many depositories and departments, including The Library of Congress and National Archives. The Library of Congress is the nation's library and is very large. The National archives is a vast repository of records, including the census. The US Government Printing Office provides a selection of directories and books to help you understand and find the various government records.
